About the project

The project aims at introducing a course of law which will be fully-dedicated to Animal Law in comparative perspective as well as in the European scenario as one of the most important areas of interest both at European and a national level.

In this direction, the course “Animal Law in Comparative and Global Perspective” aims at realizing two main results:

  •  The course will deepen diverse animal law related aspects, from public and criminal law, to civil law. A special attention will also be devoted to the links between animal law and sustainability issues with reference to specific fields of analysis.
  •  The module will also be conducted with a special attention to comparative law teaching, taking into consideration the evolution of animal law in some European Countries, as well as with reference to European law.

The project will foster a thorough knowledge and awareness on the Animal Law from a national and European perspective with
a comparative approach.
On a more general level, the project ambition is to enhance knowledge and awareness on one of the most urgent problems currently questioning modern societies, highlighting EU pivotal role as a driver for improving animal welfare.

The course will be held in Italian and in English specially thanks to the participation of foreign academics. The course is based on a collaborative approach to learning, involving a high level of interaction during lessons. It will permit students to initiate a wider debate
concerning the legal status of animals, bringing together academicians, legal experts, policy makers, journalists and civil society.
